We began this job by giving the client a sketch of our idea. After acceptance, we added soil amendment for the new Fescue grass and plant material and set some moss-covered landscape boulders in the dedicated planter beds. Because they had a pool, we opted to bring in plant material like banana trees, bird of paradise, foxtail ferns, and paso doble cordyline that gave a tropical feel and kept the area around the pool free of leaves from shedding trees. The homeowner had a friend with full-grown Mediterranean Fan and Sago Palms that they purchased and installed themselves.

With the plant material installed, we began installing the irrigation for the grass and drip irrigation for the plant material. With the irrigation complete and tested for proper coverage, we added hardscape consisting of 6-8″ cobblestone and 3/4″ Arizona Red crushed rock for the space between the grass and pool equipment. At the last minute, the client decided to add a paver path with leftover pavers they already had on-site, so we left a path within the crushed rock for them to do so.

Everything came together really nicely, and it turned out as planned. Look at the before and after pictures below to see for yourself.
